Rudi Garcia: “We are going to give it our all”

In the build-up to Marseille’s Europa League final against Atletico Madrid in the Stade de Lyon tonight, ‎Les Phocéens manager Rudi Garcia took time to express the magnitude of the challenge which could see his side become the first team to take the trophy back to France:

“We have a pretty small chance of winning but we are going to give it our all” said Garcia. “Playing Atlético is a big event for us. This is a club who have played two Champions League finals in the past four years and won the Europa League not long ago”

He continued: “A final at home in France is a fantastic opportunity. No French side have ever won this trophy; it would be fantastic if we could be the first” (uefa.com)

On paper, Marseille are already the most decorated French team in Europe; being the only side to have won the Champions League which they did so in 1993.

There is likely to be a strange dynamic on the touchline however, with Diego Simeone being forced to watch on from the stands after receiving a 4-game ban for improper conduct during Atletico’s semi-final first leg against Arsenal.
